Indicator guide cards: measure, required data, unit and limits
A Study guide card appears at the top of the settings pane for studies whose name could be read as more than they compute. It states the kind of measure, the unit, the data the calculation requires and a note on the convention and its limits. The card is documentation only.

What it does
Some study names carry expectations that the calculation does not meet: a trade-size distribution computed from aggregated levels is not a distribution of individual orders, a bid-ask spread proxy does not observe quotes, a session risk budget is not an account loss limit. The guide card replaces the ambiguous name in the pane title with an honest measure label and lays out four facts: a kind badge, the unit, the required data and a note that describes the formula, its warm-up and what it cannot prove.
Every card ends with the scope line: requirements describe the calculation; this menu cannot certify the coverage or freshness of the chart data. The card subscribes to nothing, polls nothing and computes nothing; it is reference text keyed by the study id.
Fields on a card
| Field | Values | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Kind | Proxy · Coverage dependent · Source dependent · Estimate · Specific convention · Retrospective display | Why the number should be read with care: a stand-in measure, dependent on loaded history, dependent on what the source reports, a statistical estimate, one convention among several, or a marker that can change after the fact. |
| Unit | %, Ticks per traded level, Source volume per tick of range, Signed ticks, Trades per bar, Source volume per trade, Source volume, Instrument price, Dimensionless estimate, Trades per minute, Tick distance (unsigned), Volume ratio, % annualized | The unit of the plotted value. |
| Required data | Aggregated bid/ask price levels · levels and tick size · OHLC bars · bars and tick size · OHLC history grouped by source session · trade count · volume and trade count · bar delta and session boundary · intrabar delta extremes · trade count and known bar duration · delta of loaded bars · bar volume and timestamps across sessions | What the calculation reads; a missing input produces a gap, not an estimate. |
| Note | Study-specific text | Formula, seed and warm-up, tie rules, and the claims the study does not make. |
Studies that carry a card

- Coverage dependent: session-risk-budget, cumulative-session-delta, session-volume-pace, session-opening-range-bands and the built-in CVD panel.
- Source dependent: trade-intensity, trades-count, avg-trade-size, min-max-delta, speed-of-tape.

- Estimate: hurst-rs. Retrospective display: opening-drive, initial-balance, opening-range.
How to use it
The search field of the Indicators panel matches the card text, so typing a measure (for example trades per minute) or a data requirement (tick size) finds the studies concerned even when their names differ. When a card exists, the pane title shows the measure label (Tape speed · trades/min) rather than the catalogue name, and the gear tooltip reads Details and settings for that study.
Read the note before comparing a value across instruments or sources: several notes state that the unit is the source's volume or trade count, which differs between futures, crypto feeds and bar types. A card never turns a study on; the switch and parameters sit below it.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the card tell me whether my data is complete?
- No. The scope line says so explicitly: requirements describe the calculation, not the coverage or freshness of the loaded chart data.
- Why do only some studies have a card?
- Cards were written for studies whose name suggests more than the computation delivers, or whose convention differs from other platforms. Studies with an unambiguous formula show their description only.
- Is the card different on Replay?
- No. The same card is shown wherever the study is listed; it is keyed by the study id and carries no chart state.
