NG contract specifications

The contract unit is 10,000 MMBtu, quoted in U.S. dollars and cents per MMBtu. The minimum fluctuation is $0.001 per MMBtu, so one tick is worth $10 and a one-dollar move $10,000 per contract. It is settled by physical delivery at the Henry Hub. Senzoukria's contract table holds the same tick and multiplier on the NYMEX venue code.

NG last trading day and next contracts

Trading ends three business days before the first calendar day of the delivery month. If the listed expiration day is later declared a holiday, expiration moves to the business day immediately before it.

NG stops trading in the month before its name: the November contract ends in late October. On September 25, 2026 the picker already defaults to NGX6 and still lists NGV6 with an "exp" badge until September 28, 2026, the last day its engine gives that contract. For NGX6, the default moves to the next listed month on October 24, 2026 (4 calendar days before October 28, 2026), and NGX6 stays selectable with its badge until that date.

November 26, 2026 is Thanksgiving, so the exchange calendar puts the NGZ6 last trading day on November 25, 2026. Senzoukria's expiry engine counts Monday to Friday without a holiday table and uses November 26, 2026 instead, so its picker keeps NGZ6 listed until then.

NG tick value and P&L arithmetic

  • One tick = $0.001 × 10,000 = $10.
  • 10 ticks ($0.01 per MMBtu) = $100 per contract.
  • A $0.05 stop is 50 ticks: $500 per contract, $1,000 on 2 contracts.
  • The same $0.05 on MNG is $50 per contract.

Reading NG order flow

With row resolution off, an NG footprint has one row per $0.001 tick and prices carry 3 decimals. The fixed steps give 2 ticks = 0.002, 4 ticks = 0.004, 8 ticks = 0.008, 16 ticks = 0.016, 32 ticks = 0.032 dollars per MMBtu per row.

NG's tick is a tenth of a cent per MMBtu, worth $10. Ten ticks make a cent, and since ten is not a power of two, no fixed row step equals exactly one cent per row. MNG shares the price grid at one tenth of the size, in a separate cash-settled book.

Using NG in Senzoukria

  • Replay lists NG in the Energy group. In the automatic backtest, set Point value ($) to 10,000, the value of a one-dollar move; the field defaults to 2.
