GEX workspace: pages, context bar, header and symbol picker

The GEX workspace organises gamma exposure into seven pages behind a context bar that never leaves the screen: regime, spot, flip, call wall, put wall, total GEX and 25Δ skew; a page without data is disabled and its tab says why.

What it does

Gamma exposure requires an options source; without a chain the workspace shows the empty reason "No option chain has come back yet." and only the tab bar. Once a snapshot exists, seven pages are available in this order: Overview (regime, key levels, quick stats and the strike bar chart), Strikes (the bar chart full screen with its controls), By price (gamma profile by price and the time surface), Surface (WebGL surface by expiration), History (intraday history line), Volatility (IV smile, term structure, skew history) and Method (the assumptions behind the levels).

Each page declares its availability. Ready opens; filling opens with a dot on the tab and a tooltip "Filling in — {have} of {need} so far." (By price needs 2 accumulated profiles, History needs 2 points); empty is disabled with the reason: no chain, no implied volatility in the chain, no history, no profiles. A page that becomes unusable falls back to the first openable one, and Overview is always openable once a snapshot exists. The chosen page is remembered across sessions.

The context bar stays visible on every page: the regime badge (its tooltip reads "Where price sits against the flip. It follows you from page to page."), Spot, Flip with its distance to spot in percent, Call wall, Put wall, Total GEX and 25Δ skew (marked "computed" when derived rather than published). The flip shown is the price-profile flip when it exists, otherwise the zero-gamma strike. A Total GEX of 0 with no greeks or no open interest received is shown as an absence (—), not as a balanced book.

How to use it

  • Click the symbol to open the picker; search by ticker or name, or type a ticker and press Enter to use it even if it is not in the list.
  • Press 1 to 7 to jump to a page; keys are ignored while typing in a field. Arrows step only through pages that have data.
  • Read the four numbers of the context bar before opening any page: spot, flip, call wall and put wall are the values every other page is built from.
  • Use the ⋯ menu for what you set once: source, auto-refresh cadence and the age of the last response.

Limits or pitfalls

  • GEX is conditional on an options source and its licence; data providers bill their own feeds. Databento's historical OPRA has 5 to 15 minutes of delay and stops at the open without a live licence, which is why the label is not "RT".
  • The 0DTE label means the nearest expiration; at week-ends the tooltip shows the actual expiration date targeted.
  • The Volatility page is disabled when the chain carries no implied volatility; that is the chain, not the software.
  • The GEX symbol is an ETF or stock, not the chart's futures contract; the live context sent to the assistant labels it as such.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a page tab greyed out?
It has nothing to show. Hover the tab: the tooltip gives the reason, for example "This chain carries no implied volatility — nothing here can be computed." or "Filling in — 1 of 2 so far.".
Which flip value does the context bar show?
The flip of the gamma profile by price when it exists, because that is the real turning point; otherwise the strike where the cumulative exposure changes sign.
Does auto-refresh mean the data is live?
No. Auto-refresh only sets how often the chain is requested (every 5 s). The chip on the bar states the age and delay of the chain itself, which depends on the source.
