Step-by-step connection guide: five steps, a bridge lane, diagrams

The connection wizard carries two guides: "Connecting your broker, step by step" (five steps that open on the step the diagnostic designated, with a Bridge lane) and the "Step-by-step guide" (six explanatory steps about the broker portal, with diagrams and optional screenshots).

What it does

The first panel answers "I do not know what to do". Its subtitle: "Five steps. Each one says what to do, how to tell it worked, and what to try when it does not." Every step has three labelled parts — "What to do", "How you know it worked", "If it does not work" — and a state deduced from the diagnostic: Not started, In progress, Confirmed or Stuck. A step with nothing measurable behind it (having an account) never shows a state at all. The header counts "{done} of {total} steps confirmed".

The panel opens on the right step by itself: step 1 when nothing was measured, the step owning the first failed diagnostic stage when something failed, and the last step when everything measurable passed. Buttons on a stuck step run the diagnostic, fetch the live system list, or hand the measured facts to the AI assistant with the prefilled sentence "I cannot connect {broker}. I am stuck at the “{step}” step. Here is what the diagnostic measured:".

The second panel answers "I do not understand". Its subtitle: "Where to click in {broker}'s own portal to obtain the values this form asks for." It opens from a red diagnostic line on the matching step.

Diagrams and screenshots

Three diagrams are drawn from the same measured data: a path diagram from the broker to the application coloured by step state, a separation diagram showing that authentication, data subscription and order routing are distinct entitlements ("Trading" stays read-only unless enabled), and a silent-feed diagram that repeats the measured facts and the sentence to ask the broker.

Screenshots of broker portals are provided, never generated. The registry is empty by design and the guide says so: "No screenshot for this broker yet — the written steps still apply." When a screenshot exists it shows "Screenshots checked on {date}"; after six months the line becomes "Last checked {months} months ago — the portal may have changed since." A button "Tell us this guide is out of date" copies a short factual report (broker, step, checked date) with no credentials.

Limits and pitfalls

  • The guides state what was measured and list causes by frequency; the warning in the panel reads that a refusal worded "permission denied" does not establish that rights are short — it has been read that way four times here, wrongly each time.
  • "Trust the portal": third-party portals are redesigned without notice; when the screen in front of you does not match, it is the guide that is out of date.
  • The AI hand-off sends the measured context only — gateway, system, username, steps — never the password.

Frequently asked questions

Which guide should I open first?
"Guide me step by step" — it opens on the step the last diagnostic designated and can launch the diagnostic itself. "Show me where to click" explains the broker portal when a step is unclear.
Why does the first step never turn green?
Nothing the software measures can prove that you own an account the broker allows an outside application to use, so the guide shows no state rather than a false one.
