Crosshair and magnet mode
The crosshair colour, opacity, line style and width are set in Visual Settings; the magnet mode (None, OHLC snap, POC snap) in Trading Settings or with the magnet button decides where the price line locks on hover.

What it does
The crosshair is the pair of cursor guides drawn over the canvas: a vertical line at the hovered bar and a horizontal line at the hovered price, with a price tag on the axis. Its appearance is configured in the Crosshair section of Visual Settings, whose hint reads “Cursor guides — pick a hue that contrasts with your background.” The magnet mode decides where the horizontal line locks: “None” follows the exact pixel, “OHLC” snaps to the open, high, low and close of the bar under the cursor, and “POC” snaps to the bar’s point of control, the level with the most volume.
The magnet button in the chart toolbar cycles the same setting: none → OHLC → POC → none. Its tooltip states the current mode and the next one (“Magnet: off (click to enable OHLC snap)”, “Magnet: OHLC (click to switch to POC)”, “Magnet: POC (click to disable)”), and the active mode is printed on the button. The value is stored with the other footprint settings and survives restarts; “Reset settings” preserves the magnet mode on purpose, because it is a habit rather than a look.
The same snap logic is reused by the drawing tools: while dragging a drawing’s endpoint, holding Ctrl (⌘ on macOS) snaps the price to the nearest open, high, low or close of the candle under the cursor when one is within 20 px. Moving a whole drawing skips the snap, so the offset stays as dragged.

How to use it
Open Footprint settings, go to Visual Settings and adjust the Crosshair section until the guides read well on your background; a dark theme usually keeps the white default, a light background needs a darker hue. For price reading, switch to Trading Settings and set Magnet mode, or simply click the magnet button on the chart while you work. OHLC snap is convenient to read exact bar extremes and to anchor alerts and drawings on them; POC snap is useful when your levels are built from the volume distribution of each bar.
The crosshair follows the row grid of the chart: when a manual tick size override is set, the snap uses that grid, otherwise it uses the tick size inferred from the trades.
Limits or pitfalls
- The magnet only affects the vertical position of the price line and the values you pick; it never changes the data of the bar.
- POC snap needs bars with levels: on a bar without volume (a synthetic filler) there is no point of control to snap to.
- Crosshair appearance settings belong to the footprint chart; the heatmap and DOM keep their own guides.
- The Ctrl-drag OHLC magnet for drawings is momentary, applies to endpoint drags only and does not change the stored mode.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between the magnet button and the Magnet mode setting?
- They are the same value. The button cycles none → OHLC → POC, the setting in Trading Settings picks one directly, and both are stored together.
- Does resetting the chart settings also reset the magnet?
- No. The reset restores colours and layout but keeps the magnet mode, because it describes how you read prices rather than how the chart looks.
- Can the crosshair be shared between two charts?
- Yes, through the workspace: put both panes in the same group and keep Crosshair on Linked by group. The time line is shared; the price line is shared only when symbol and source match.
