Journal dashboard: KPIs, equity curve and per-setup breakdowns

The Dashboard tab computes net P&L, win rate, profit factor, streaks, max drawdown and Sharpe over the closed trades of the selected account, then charts the equity curve, long versus short, the day-of-week track record, win rate per setup and a per-symbol table.

Where to find it

Where
Journal → Dashboard tab
Population
Closed trades only (a trade with no P&L is excluded), for the selected account scope
Read window
Up to 5 000 trades per load
Sharpe
Daily realized P&L, annualized by √252, zero risk-free rate; needs at least 5 trading days
Day attribution
Closing day, the same key the calendar uses

What it does

On entry the tab reads the trades of the current account scope, keeps those that have a realized P&L, sorts them chronologically and recomputes everything on screen from that list. Mixing two accounts would produce numbers that existed on neither, so every figure here is scoped to the account you are looking at.

If the read fails, the tab shows the error alone rather than a row of zeroed KPIs — zeros under a banner still read as a result. If the account genuinely has no closed trade while other accounts do, the empty state says so and counts the trades held elsewhere.

The KPI row

What each KPI counts and how it is derived
SettingDefaultWhat it changes
Net P&LSum of realized P&LTotal over the closed trades in scope, with the trade count underneath
Win RateWins ÷ (wins + losses)Breakeven trades count in neither side; the sub-line shows the W/L split
Profit FactorGross win ÷ gross lossShows ∞ when there is no losing trade at all, and 0 when there is no winner
StreakCurrent run of wins or lossesBreakeven trades are skipped; best and worst runs are shown underneath
Max DrawdownDeepest peak-to-trough on the cumulative trade P&LExpressed as dollars given up from a peak, never as a percentage of an account
Sharpe— until 5 trading days existMean daily realized P&L over its standard deviation, times √252; the sub-line names the number of trading days

The charts

  • Net P&L — the running net over closed trades, on a trade-index axis so overnight and weekend gaps do not turn the line into a staircase. Long curves are downsampled to roughly 240 buckets, but each bucket keeps its lowest and highest point, so the deepest drawdown and the highest peak are never sampled away.
  • Long vs Short — which side you actually trade well.
  • Day of Week Track Record — net P&L, expectancy and per-session average by closing weekday. A weekday needs at least three sessions before it is called good or bad; below that it is reported as thin rather than judged.
  • Win Rate by Setup — one bar per tagged setup, with trade count and net P&L; "No tagged trades yet" when nothing carries a tag.
  • Symbol Breakdown — a table of symbol, trades, win rate, net P&L and average per trade.

Limits and pitfalls

  • Every figure is realized P&L as the journal holds it. Open positions contribute nothing, and no floating P&L is invented.
  • Sharpe here is a descriptive statistic on daily realized P&L with no risk-free rate and no benchmark. On a handful of days it is noise; the tab shows a dash until at least five trading days exist.
  • Max drawdown is measured on the cumulative trade curve, not on an account balance, so it does not know about deposits, withdrawals or unrealized excursions.
  • None of these numbers is a forecast. A profit factor computed over a small sample says what happened, not what will.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my profit factor shown as ∞?
Because the scope contains winning trades and no losing trade at all. Gross loss is zero, so the ratio has no finite value; it is a small-sample artefact, not a result to lean on.
Why is Sharpe a dash?
Fewer than five distinct trading days are present in the scope, or daily P&L has zero dispersion. The sub-line under the value names how many trading days were found.
Does the dashboard include open trades?
No. Only trades with a realized P&L are counted, everywhere on this tab, including the equity curve and the per-symbol table.
