Session imprint: one trading day drawn step by step

The session imprint draws a single trading day as a step function of cumulative realized P&L — one step per exit — with a point per trade, and a review column listing those trades in the order the account lived them.

What it draws

Realized P&L only changes at an exit, so the curve is a step function and not a spline: a smooth line between two exits would describe a path the account never took. The trace starts at zero on the left edge, steps once per closed trade, and runs flat to the right edge.

Each trade is a point placed at the moment it counted — its exit time when closed, its entry time while still open. The legend states the coding in full: a filled point is a gain, a hollow point a loss, a ring marks a trade that carries a note or a screenshot, and a dotted point is a trade still open. An open trade sits on the current step and advances nothing, because it has no realized P&L to add.

The window spans the day's first and last instant plus ten minutes on each side, with a one-hour floor so a day holding a single trade does not become a twenty-minute frame with everything in the middle.

How to use it

  • Use the ‹ and › arrows in the header to step between trading days. Known days come from the months already read; a neighbouring month is probed on demand, up to twelve months, after which the arrow disables rather than searching the whole history.
  • Click a point on the drawing or a row in the list to open the trade — the two are the same set, in the same order.
  • Rings are the review markers, not the biggest trades: they show which trades already carry a note or a screenshot, so the count underneath tells you what is left to review.
  • The day key is the exit day, the same one the calendar uses, so the imprint and the calendar always agree on which day a trade belongs to.

Limits and pitfalls

  • Nothing here is inferred: no floating P&L, no interpolation between trades, and no "rules followed" score that nothing measured.
  • A day the account did not trade is not a blank page you can leaf through — it simply is not a stop in the navigation.
  • While a day is loading, no figure from the previous day is shown under the new date; the panel stays in its loading state instead.
  • The trace animates once per day change and is disabled entirely when the system asks for reduced motion.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the line made of steps instead of a curve?
Because realized P&L only moves when a trade closes. A smoothed line would draw values between two exits that the account never held.
What does a ring around a point mean?
That trade carries a note or a screenshot. It marks a reviewed trade, not a large one.
Why can't I move to yesterday?
Navigation only stops on days that contain trades. If no trade closed yesterday, the arrow moves to the previous day that did — or disables once twelve neighbouring months have been probed without finding one.
