Settings: data cache, history range and deep history

The Data section of Settings shows what the desktop downloads and keeps on this machine: the crypto deep-history depth, a link to the cache and broker page, and, from the chart's Trading Settings tab, the broker history range and the Reload history action.

What it does

Two different windows govern how far back a chart reaches. The history range is the broker window: how many days of minute data the app asks the broker for, counted from midnight in the time zone chosen for the time axis. The crypto deep history is the Binance Spot/Perp window: candles and real volume at price imported progressively and kept on disk.

Only the minute grain is downloaded from the broker; every intraday timeframe is summed from it locally, so switching timeframes costs no round-trip. A daily chart keeps its own floor of 360 hours (about 15 calendar days) whatever the range, because seven daily candles would not be a chart.

The Data section itself is a summary surface: it shows the current deep-history value and points to the Account page, where data feeds, brokers and the local cache are managed. The hint reads "What the app downloads and keeps on this machine."

Bar caps per timeframe

Each chart keeps a bounded number of bars in memory, tuned per grain. The caps are memory guards, not loading instructions; the window is decided by the range.

  • 15s and 30s: 200 bars; 1m: 1,500 (about 25 hours); 3m: 1,200; 5m: 2,100 (about 7 days); 15m: 3,000 (about 31 days); 1h: 4,500 (about 6 months); 1d: 400; 100-tick: 1,500.
  • Intraday grains of one minute and above scale their cap by the chosen range (×3 for 3 days, ×7 for 7 days) so a 7-day window does not shrink at the first burst of live ticks.
  • Custom grains typed by hand receive about 25 hours of bars, bounded between 120 and 1,500; grains of one hour and above receive about 190 days, capped at 4,500.

Limits or pitfalls

  • The deep-history hint states the display constraint: use 30m or higher to display 6 months; smaller chart grains are capped. For TPO, choose a bracket at least as long as the chart timeframe.
  • A broker window that returned empty is never asked again by default, which is right on a weekend and wrong when the broker was merely busy. Reload history is the only action that lifts that; it also answers the "another history load still running" notice.
  • Market data is billed by its provider; the range only decides how much of it the app requests. Crypto feeds are for analysis only, no order routing.
  • The cache probe looks back 400 days when listing instruments already downloaded on this machine, so a symbol drained months ago is still offered offline.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the chart show only today when I open it?
The default history range is "24 hours (today)", counted from midnight in the time-axis time zone. Pick 3 days or 7 days in the chart's ⚙ → Trading Settings → History range; expect a longer first load.
Where is the crypto deep-history depth set?
Settings → Performance (segmented control: 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months) or the chart modal's Trading Settings tab. Settings → Data only displays the current value. The default is 6 months; the Balanced performance preset sets 3 months.
When should I press Reload history?
When a window the broker returned empty should be asked again (the broker was busy rather than closed) or when the chart reports that another history load is still running. It does not clear the cache.
