Announcement map: flat dot map and draggable globe
The announcement map colours the world by how much is scheduled where, over the next forty-eight hours. It renders either as a flat dot grid or as a draggable globe, and clicking a zone filters the economic calendar to that zone.

What it does
Land is drawn as a grid of dots rather than outlines, and each dot carries the calendar zone it belongs to. A zone lights up in proportion to its heat: the sum, over the events of the next forty-eight hours, of the impact weight multiplied by how close the event is. In flat mode the panel hint states the rule on screen — heat is impact multiplied by proximity over forty-eight hours; in globe mode it explains the drag instead.
Clicking a zone sets the map filter on the economic calendar; clicking it again clears the filter. In globe mode the click also turns the sphere so the chosen zone faces you. Each zone carries a chip with its code and the number of events in the window; hovering it names the next event and its UTC hour, or reads "quiet" when nothing is scheduled. The heat is recomputed once a minute.

How to use it
- Start flat to see where the next two days are loaded, then switch to the globe when you want a single region in front of you.
- Click the brightest zone to filter the calendar to it, read the rows, then click it again to go back to your country selection.
- Turn auto-spin off if the motion distracts you while a chart is open in another window — the setting lives in the general application settings.
- The mode you choose is remembered locally, so the panel reopens the way you left it on that machine.
Limits and pitfalls
- Heat is a scheduling density, not a forecast of volatility: a quiet map does not promise a quiet session, and a hot one does not promise a move.
- Only the nine calendar zones have their own colour; every other land dot is drawn as "other" and is never lit.
- The dot grid is coarse by design — 2.4° per cell — so small territories may be represented by a single dot or none.
- While a map filter is active, the country buttons in the calendar are dimmed because the zone overrides them.

Frequently asked questions
- Why is the globe not turning?
- Either you are dragging it, or the "News globe auto-spin" setting is off. The Performance rendering preset turns that setting off as part of its motion reduction.
- Why does a zone stay dark even though news is breaking there?
- The map reads the economic calendar, not the headline wire. It lights up for scheduled releases in the next forty-eight hours, not for unscheduled news.
- Does clicking a zone change the wire?
- No. It sets the calendar's zone filter only. The wire keeps its own tags and preset.
