Cell colours, text and footprint layer settings

The Visual Settings tab of the Footprint settings modal holds the colours of the bid and ask numbers, the neutral Volume, Trades and Cell text colours, the outline drawn around the cell block, the optional full candle behind the cells and the paint layer of the footprint relative to the profiles and the grid.

What it does

Every colour the footprint renderer uses is a user setting stored with the chart settings. The Bid and Ask colours drive the eleven cell layouts that have a buyer or seller side (Bid × Ask, Delta, the delta profiles, the bid/ask profiles and the heatmap delta). The three neutral colours (Volume, Trades, Cell text) apply to the layouts that have no side: Volume, Trades, Volume + Trades, the volume and trades profiles and their heatmaps.

The same tab controls the rectangle drawn around the cell block, whether a full candle is painted behind the cells or beside them, and where the footprint sits in the paint order when profiles and the grid overlap it.

How to use it

  • If the Volume Profile HVN/LVN bands hide your candles, switch Footprint layer to Front. The session POC, VAH and VAL lines then run underneath the footprint; to keep those visible, lower the node opacity in the Volume Profile settings instead of changing the layer.
  • Back drops the footprint under the grid as well as under the profiles; use it when the profiles are the primary read and the cells are context.
  • The three neutral colours shipped are exactly the values the renderer used before they became settings, so a chart that has never been customised looks the same.
  • Bid/Ask and Delta layouts ignore the Volume and Trades colours; change Bid and Ask in Chart colors for those.

Limits

Colours are hex strings without alpha; the renderer applies its own transparency where it needs one (for example the outline opacity slider or the heatmap intensities). Per-cell imbalance highlighting in the Bid × Ask layout uses fixed accent colours (a red for sell imbalances, a green for buy imbalances) and is not affected by these pickers; see the imbalances page.

The settings are stored locally with the chart settings and are included in saved templates. They do not alter the data, only the paint.

Frequently asked questions

Why does changing the Volume colour do nothing on my chart?
The Volume, Trades and Cell text colours only apply to layouts without a buyer or seller side. In Bid × Ask or any Delta layout, the cells follow the Bid and Ask colours from the Chart colors section.
What is the difference between Front and Back?
Front lifts the footprint above both profiles, so profile bands never cover the cells, but the session POC, VAH and VAL lines are drawn under it. Back places the footprint under the profiles and under the grid.
Does the outline include the candle wick?
No. The outline surrounds the data cells only, from the highest to the lowest displayed level, not the OHLC candle.
