GEX shows “DELAYED ≈15 MIN”, “STALE” or “AGE UNKNOWN” in Senzoukria

What you see

The chip next to the GEX symbol reads one of: “LIVE · chain {n} min”, “DELAYED ≈15 MIN · chain {n} min”, “STALE · {n} min” (“The option chain is {n} min old — nothing on this page has been refreshed since.”) or “AGE UNKNOWN” (“This source publishes no chain timestamp, so freshness cannot be measured. Numbers may be older than they look.”).

Why it happens

Five things are kept apart: whether the market is open, whether auto-refresh is on, whether the source publishes late, whether the data received is dated and recent, and whether a computed value is zero. A delay is a property of the source; the age is measured on the chain received. Market Data is requested in cached mode, which proves neither real time nor a fixed delay, hence AGE UNKNOWN. ThetaData is labelled as a local terminal with gamma computed by the app.

How to fix it

• For real time, use a real-time source: Tradier with a brokerage token, or Alpaca with the paid OPRA add-on ticked in API Keys.
• On STALE, check that auto-refresh is on in “More options” and that no error is shown; outside market hours the chain naturally stops changing.
• Remember that open interest is published once a day after the close, so intraday gamma moves with spot and time, not with today’s positions.

What it is not

• Not a software lag: a provider delay is not made up by reloading.
• Not an error: these chips describe the data; errors show as NO DATA or PROVIDER ERROR.
